True confession: in addition to being oddly attached to my KitchenAid mixer, I happen to have genuine affection for my cookbooks. I’m not one of those who have to buy every single one I see (although I do have quite a few, and too few to ever use, so maybe I do have a problem…) it’s just that over the years, I’ve turned to the same two dozen or so books time and again and I simply love them. I wish I could say they were in pristine condition (they’re not) and that their covers aren’t torn (they are) and that the pages don’t have smudges (you could do DNA testing and find numerous sauces and spices on them). But the thing is, they are loved.
So much so, that recently, I decided to move them from the corners of my kitchen counters to my office where I can draw inspiration from them when I’m working and thinking about what I’m going to be cooking or writing about next. My cookbooks have moved up in the world!
The collection that you see in the photo above reflects my favorite Jewish cookbooks and yes, a few did not make it into the photo because of image size restrictions, but if you’re supposed to surround yourself with things you love, these bring true joy.
If you have a cookbook collection that you love, weave them into your decor and liberate them from the recesses of your kitchen. You’ll be amazed at how often you’ll open them up, start cooking, and smile just seeing them as you go about your day.
P.S. Even though Ina Garten does not write Jewish cookbooks per se, she’s a nice Jewish girl who roasts a chicken for Jeffrey (husband) most Friday nights. Therefore, she made it onto my shelf. So there 🙂
